Cyngerdd Band Porthaethwy/Menai Bridge Band Concert
Please come along and support Menai Bridge Band at its Annual Concert. It promises to be a very enjoyable evening, also featuring Holyhead Male Voice Choir and, as always, is a chance to give a proper send-off to a couple of our members that are heading off to university. This year we are saying farewell to a multi-talented trombonist and also a horn player who may be diminutive in stature but has a BIG personality! Location: St Mary's Church, Menai Bridge Time: 18 September 2010 at 19:30 Admission - £5 Adults, £3 Children
Band hoping to benefit from Waitrose Community Matters
Since it's launch in 2008, Waitrose's Community Matters initiative has donated over £3 million to a wide range of charities and community groups. This unique scheme gives each branch £1,000 to share out between three local good causes each month – such as welfare organisations, community groups, schools or local divisions of national charities. Customers vote for their preferred cause using a green token each time they shop and the money each cause is given is directly proportional to the tokens they receive. September 2010 sees Menai Bridge Band as one of the afore-mentioned community groups that is hoping to benefit from Waitrose's generous scheme. What can you do to help? Well, pop into the Waitrose store in Menai Bridge in September and make sure you are given a green token if you spend £5 or more. Pop the token into the collecting box labelled 'Menai Bridge Band' and the job is done! You can be sure that any money received from the scheme will go towards continuing the Band's good work in teaching youngsters of all ages to play a brass instrument, as well as entertaining the public. Thank you, in anticipation of your support.
Band in the paper - again!
The Band has made yet another appearance in the local press, this time in the Bangor & Anglesey Mail of 17th Feb as part of a series about local 'clubs'. Here's a copy of the article:
Musical Donation to Hope House
Last Friday, 5th Feb, the Band used the occasion of its annual Solo Competition to hand over a cheque for £230 to Hope House Children’s Hospices. The Band, itself a Registered Charity, had raised the money as part of its own fundraising efforts in the lead-up to Christmas and the cheque represented the amount raised during one particular session outside the Tesco store in Bangor. Band Chairman, Brian Mottershead, said, “The month leading up to Christmas is the busiest time of the year for the Band and also the period when it raises the majority of the funds to enable it to keep going during the other 11 months; however, we are absolutely delighted to be able to make a donation in support of the tremendous work carried out by the Hope House hospices in Conwy and Oswestry. The Band looks forward to maintaining its links with Hope House in the future.” Arthur Newnes, accepting the cheque on behalf of Hope House, thanked the Band for its donation and reminded everyone that it costs £4M a year to provide the services for terminally-ill children that are so important to them and their families.
